Fergie opens up about cancer “paranoia”

Sarah Ferguson has spoken candidly about feeling paranoid that her cancer would return.

The Duchess of York appeared on a UK morning show, and shared how she regularly wakes in the middle of night in a panic that she would “get cancer somewhere else”.

The 64-year-old royal, who appeared on the show to talk about the importance of attending your regular mammogram appointments, said, “You start four in the morning syndrome.”

“You know that moment when you suddenly wake up and go ‘oh I'm sure I've got cancer somewhere else... I'm gonna go and ring my doctor’.”

“I'm getting over that but it's only been a few months since I've had the operation, so I'm just beginning to sit up straight.”

The Duchess also opened up about feeling grateful that her diagnosis was caught early, and navigating the “feeling of demise” at the reality of living with cancer.

“I caught it so early, just in time,” she added.

“The real thing is, it's that terrible fear of ‘oh no, it won't happen to me’... and that's why I want to shout about it. I wouldn't be sitting here if I hadn't have gone.”

Fergie admitted that she had been putting off her routine appointment, but her older sister, who was visiting her from Australia, pushed her to have the mammogram.

The Duchess added that she's “very grateful” to the Royal Free Hospital and the NHS, praising their detection systems.

“I had a shadow, it was like a splat,” she explained. “Eighteen months before, it wasn't there. So it had come on from the last mammogram to this mammogram.”

She also added she will “never forget” her drive from the hospital.

“Your mind goes into, ‘oh my god I've got to have a mastectomy, and you look it up and it's all so terrifying and this is what's going to happen and then I'm not going to see my grandchildren grow up’.”

“That's what goes through your head... it's that feeling of demise.”

Duke and Duchess ordered to shorten their baby's name

In a world where baby names have become battlegrounds for parental creativity, one Spanish duke is learning the hard way that there's such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Meet Fernando Juan Fitz-James Stuart y de Solís, the 17th Duke of Huéscar and heir apparent to the dukedom of Alba. He and his wife, Sofía Palazuelo, recently welcomed their second child into the world, and they didn't hold back when it came to naming her. In fact, they let their imaginations run so wild that they've run into a bit of a royal roadblock.

Their darling daughter was bestowed with a grand total of TWENTY-FIVE NAMES.

Yes, you read that right. It's like they were trying to set a new record for the world's longest moniker.

The poor girl's full name is Sofía Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Ángela de la Cruz Micaela del Santísimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santísima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos.

In English, that translates to "Sofía Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Ángela de la Cruz Micaela of the Blessed Sacrament of Perpetual Help of the Holy Trinity and All Saints." Young Sofia would almost certainly need perpetual help writing that out on school and official documents were it not for the obstacle now preventing the 'normous name from sticking.

Now, before you start thinking this was just a case of overly enthusiastic parents throwing every possible name they could think of at their child, hold on a moment. There's a method to this naming madness. Each of those 11 names was carefully chosen to honour important family members, including her mother, grandmother, father and great-uncle. The couple also included a nod to religious devotions, just in case little Sofía needed some divine intervention to carry her name around.

However, the Spanish Civil Registry, apparently not a fan of name-related acrobatics, has thrown a royal wrench into the works. According to their rules, a child's name must contain "no more than one compound name and no more than two simple ones".

In other words, they're putting a cap on the number of monikers a person can have, and Sofía's name blew right past that limit like a speeding chariot.

So, the Duke and Duchess find themselves in a bit of a naming pickle. They need to trim their daughter's name down to size, and that's not a task for the faint of heart. After all, it's not every day that you have to decide which family member's name makes the cut and which one gets the royal snip.

In the meantime, young Sofía will no doubt need a papyrus scroll just to keep track of all those names – and if she ever loses her way, she can simply follow the trail of syllables to find her identity again.

This entire baby-naming escapade is reminiscent of the late Duchess of Alba, who for a time held the Guinness World Record for "most titled aristocrat", holding more than 50 titles in her lifetime. She passed away in 2014 at the ripe old age of 88, and while the young Duke of Huéscar may not be aiming for the world record, he's certainly giving it a good-natured run for its money.

Images: Instagram

Fergie reveals Queen Elizabeth's last words to her before she died

Sarah Ferguson has revealed the last words Queen Elizabeth said to her before she passed away last September.

The Duchess of York shared the details of the profound conversation with her former mother-in-law on her podcast Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah.

Fergie revealed that the late monarch noticed the Duchess had changed, and used their last conversation to encourage her authenticity.

"It’s the last thing that the Queen said to me: ‘Just be yourself, Sarah,’” the duchess said.

“And she saw it. She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself. And that’s probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I’m just so lucky to be able to be myself,” she added.

In an interview with Good Morning America, the Duchess of York had previously explained that, to some extent, the Queen’s death meant she could now be herself.

“I don’t know whether it’s the Queen passing that makes me think I can now openly say what I want to say without worrying I’m going to offend somebody,” she said. “I’m really, truly authentic Sarah now.”

She has also expressed her respect and admiration for the late monarch, as the duchess called her a “total idol” back in March.

“She put you at ease straight away ... because it’s terrifying, you know?” she told People about the late Queen.

“I used to sit there for hours thinking: ‘Oh my gosh, this is somebody’s lifetime to have an audience with the Queen, and I’m sitting having a cup of tea.’”

The Duchess continued, “She was so brilliant at putting you at ease. She had the most incredible faith of any single person I’ve ever met. She just knew what to do. She knew how to make people feel good. She never took it onboard as about her. It’s about the monarchy, about making someone feel good. She was my total idol.”

Helen Holland, the 81-year-old woman who was struck by a police motorcade escorting the Duchess of Edinburgh, has died.

Helen was hit on May 10 at the junction of West Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in west London’s Earl’s Court, and was taken to hospital after receiving treatment from paramedics at the scene.

Her family confirmed the news of her passing, telling the BBC that while she had fought "for her life for nearly two weeks”, tragically “irreversible damage to her brain finally ended the battle”.

Helen had suffered “multiple broken bones and massive internal injuries” in the crash, despite using the “safe route of [a] pedestrian crossing”, according to her son, Martin Holland.

In the wake of the devastating incident, her family had announced that Helen was in a coma, with the police later revealing that she remained in a critical condition.

In a statement reportedly shared with Sky News, the family had described Helen as a "beautiful, loving, kind, and caring lady who would always put anyone before herself.

"The family are deeply saddened and shocked at the news Helen was involved in such a tragic accident.”

They went on to share that while she had been 81 years old, she was “sprightly for her age and nothing stopped her living life to the full, spending precious time with her family, muddy walks with the dogs and lunches with friends is what she enjoyed most”, before asking that everyone keep her in their thoughts and prayers.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace had announced that Sophie - the Duchess of Edinburgh - had offered her “heartfelt thoughts and prayers” to “the injured lady and her family”, and that she was “grateful for the swift response of emergency services and will keep abreast of developments".

An investigation was launched by The Independent Office for Police Conduct soon after the event, and it remains ongoing, with the police watchdog assuring Helen’s family that they would keep them “regularly updated as the investigation progresses".

That investigation involved examining footage from neary CCTV as well as footage from police body cameras. Additionally, officers who were present at the scene were to be interviewed, while the organisation sought other witnesses to come forward with any more information they might have.

While the family waits for answers, they are also coming to terms with their difficult loss, with Helen’s grandson - Joe Strutter Holland - sharing on Facebook, “rest in peace Nanny (Helen) Holland. One of the kindest and most joyful souls you'll ever of had the pleasure of meeting. Taken before her time.”

He went on to note that he was glad his grandmother and his son had gotten the chance to meet, writing 'I'll ensure he knows who you are, till we meet again”.

Images: Facebook, Getty

Fergie breaks her silence on coronation snub

Sarah Ferguson has opened up about not being invited to the coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.

Last week, the Duchess of York revealed she did not receive an invitation to the crown of His Majesty, due to take place in Westminster Abbey on May 6th.

Fergie is not among the 2,000 people expected to attend, despite knowing the king since she was a child.

Instead, she is expected to watch the event on TV at Royal Lodge, which she shares with disgraced ex Prince Andrew.

Speaking candidly on Good Morning Britain, Fergie shared the exact reasoning she wasn't invited.

She said, “I‘m not invited because it’s a state occasion. Being divorced you can’t have it both ways."

“I am enjoying being divorced to my husband - not from my husband."

“I am close with King Charles and Camilla. The great thing at this moment is the unity of family."

“In private I can be there. It‘s a great feeling to be part of the family.”

Earlier this month, she told ITV1’s Loose Women she always planned to watch the Coronation on TV.

She said, “I will be having a little tea room and putting out the bunting. I love to watch it on the telly because the commentators are always good.”

Despite not being invited to the ceremony, the Duchess will have a seat on the East Lawn of Windsor Castle 24 hours after the ceremony.

She will be joined at the bash by other royals believed to include daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, plus 20,000 lucky ticket holders.

King Charles Coronation: Harry is in, Meghan is out

Prince Harry has finally confirmed that he will be present at the coronation of his father, King Charles III.

It was confirmed that an invite was sent to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on March 4, with an answer still to be seen as of RSVP cut-off on April 3. But now, the prince has revealed that he has accepted, though Meghan will remain at home in California with their two young children.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service,” a spokesperson for the palace said.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

A close friend of the couple has since explained that their son Archie was a major factor in their decision, as he will turn four on May 6 - the day of his grandfather Charles’ coronation.

Omid Scobie, author of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family, went on to warn fans - and critics - of the family to “expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.”

I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision. Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

— Omid Scobie (@scobie) April 12, 2023

As Page Six have reported, the pair made the choice that felt “genuine in authentic” in the wake of what has transpired since the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare. And while Meghan will not be in attendance, she “fully supports” her husband doing so.

“The words that Harry and Meghan have said about the importance of their family are lining up with their actions,” a source told the publication.

“They care about their family, so Meghan is going to stay and Harry is going to support his dad.”

Still, it wasn’t an easy decision for the Sussexes to make as a family, with that same source revealing that it had nothing to do with any alleged “controlling” within the relationship. As they explained, if Meghan was “super controlling” - as many critics choose to label her - then “she would have made sure that Harry didn’t go.

“She’s all good, she supports Harry - they both have nothing more to prove.”

BBC’s royal correspondent Nicholas Witchel had another point to make on the matter of the royal family’s rift, explaining that “the bad feeling that that has undoubtedly been caused within the royal family towards him, a strong sense of betrayal ... this is a moment perhaps of some reconciliation.”

And for those still questioning their intentions, another source had more to add, noting that there “is not one right answer”, something the couple must have been well aware of while weighing up all the different - and significant - elements of accepting or declining their invite.

“Prince Harry is going to support his dad,” they confirmed, before going on to add that he would then be coming straight home to spend time with his son for his important day, too.

“For all the people who say they want to be half in and half out of the royal family,” they surmised, “this proves just the opposite.”

Images: Getty

Fergie reveals Queen’s tender personal advice before passing

Sarah Ferguson has shared that she is reminded of Queen Elizabeth II’s advice when she walks the late monarch’s infamous corgis.

Sarah, the Duchess of York, 63, appeared on The One Show to promote her latest book, A Most Intriguing Lady, and she has revealed that the dogs make her think about the “values” upheld by her late mother-in-law.

“One thing I really love when I'm with them actually, cause I really think about HM and I just really think about the value system that she supported in this country,” the duchess told presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.

“And I remember she used to say, "Sarah there needs to be more kindness in the world, which would disarm malice".”

The Duchess feels that everyone should “stop to remember those words with respect and affection for a great leader, who has now passed it to another great leader in her son”.

“It's so funny to say that...straight off the corgis,” she continued. "But when I look at them I think "yes come on”.”

She also mentioned she believes that the late Queen’s message can, and should be followed more broadly across the country.

“And I think - so important - for the whole country to unite and uphold the values that for 72 years the monarch gave us all, really.”

Sarah also admitted to feeling frightened that something could happen to the dogs as she walks them.

“Because they're national treasures I'm terrified when they go out running," she told The One Show. “They chase everything. Straight into tress, bang, like that! I go "no, no, no, the nation loves you, stop, stop, stop chasing the squirrels”.”

"We got in trouble a lot": Fergie spills all on Princess Diana arrest

Sarah Ferguson has opened up about the time she and the late Princess Diana got themselves arrested in 1986.

The pair were celebrating at a nightclub when they were arrested for impersonating law enforcement officers. The two had decided to dress up as police for Fergie’s bachelorette party, unaware that they were setting themselves on a path to trouble in an event described by Royal Expert Tom Quinn as a “riot”.

Speaking to The Sun, Fergie claimed that once authorities came to the realisation that she and Diana were actually royals, it wasn’t long before they were released.

And while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she expanded on the tale, outlining exactly how the two had gotten themselves into such a situation in the first place.

“It was extraordinary,” the 63-year-old Duchess of York said, “because we went to a nightclub, of course, you go to a nightclub with the Princess of Wales.

“We sat down, and the waiter came up to us and said ‘excuse me, this is a members club. It’s for fun, and we don’t serve police officers here’."

“They thought you were real police officers?" host Kelly Clarkson exclaimed.

Fergie confirmed the detail with a confident "yes!"

She explained that once they had been arrested and ushered into the police van, they opted to hide their engagement rings.

Fergie went on to recall that Diana had been told off for eating some chips - “smoky bacon-flavoured” she’d found in the vehicle.

Their brief encounter with the law didn’t ruin their fun though, with the party continuing on into Annabel’s nightclub - an establishment known to be one of the world’s most exclusive.

And their fun reportedly wasn’t limited to their own celebration, with Town and Country Magazine claiming that the two got up to some more mischief when they decided to lock Andrew out of Buckingham Palace after his bachelor party.

Their fun kept the two close over the course of their friendship, and Fergie has admitted that she carries Diana everywhere she goes, telling Kelly, “she’s with me all day”.

“She and I, we laughed a lot,” Fergie reminisced, “we got into trouble a lot.

“You know what she used to do? She used to tell me the worst story, joke story, just before I had to be serious."

Although, despite her admiration for Diana’s sense of humour - and her belief that Diana would be “incredibly proud” of her grandchildren - Fergie did once share on Good Morning America that if the two had had the chance to go head-to-head as grandmothers, she believed they’d “have a ‘Granny-off’. Because she would run faster in the races, I wonder … she’d probably be funnier. No, I think I’d be funnier.”

Images: Getty

Meghan Markle’s “gentle concerns” over Harry’s memoir

Meghan Markle expressed concern over the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, a royal insider has revealed to The Telegraph.

The source, who declared Meghan to be “media-savvy”, claimed the duchess had previously raised “gentle concerns” over the bombshell publication, and had questioned whether or not it was the right time to go ahead with its release.

The couple have moved as a united front since revealing their engagement to the media in 2017, and so it raised some eyebrows when Meghan was noticeably absent from Harry’s press tour for Spare.

The insider reports that Meghan kept her distance to avoid anyone assuming she was “trying to steal the limelight” during Harry’s big moment. And a big moment it was, with Spare shattering sales records across the globe on its release as readers sought to learn more about the royals.

Despite its success on a sales front, the fallout from the book has seen Harry’s popularity slump across both the United Kingdom and the United States.

Some suspected that Meghan was somehow behind all of it, but as Camilla Tominey wrote for The Telegraph, this “could not be further from the truth.”

“No stranger to taking on her enemies,” it was said of Meghan, whose every move has been dissected and commented on for years, “she is understood to have been more wary than the Duke about this particular project.”

Despite Meghan’s concerns, it is reported that once Harry had made up his mind to go ahead with the project, the duchess offered him “her full support and is immensely proud of his achievements.”

As a source confessed to Camilla Tominey, “is this the way she would have approached things? Possibly not. But she will always back him.

“This was about his own life, his journey and his own perspective,” they added.

Although Harry has his wife’s support, the same cannot be said of his father and brother, who reportedly did not take well to some of the bombshell revelations and allegations made in the book. As another source told Vanity Fair, King Charles was left “deeply hurt”, and Prince William “cannot speak to his brother”.

Only time will tell what this means for the royal family, but with experts predicting that Harry and Meghan will be in attendance at King Charles’ coronation in May, it is certain that fans and critics from all over will be watching to find out.

Image: Getty Images

King Charles III “saving” title for Princess Charlotte

King Charles III is reportedly saving the title of Duchess of Edinburgh for his granddaughter Princess Charlotte.

It was previously expected that when Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, died in 2021, the title would be given to Prince Edward.

But Charles inherited the title and now its future is up in air with talks of him saving it for Princess Charlotte as she is third in line to the throne.

"It would be a fitting way to remember the Queen – who, of course, had the title Duchess of Edinburgh – and a way for His Majesty to honour the line of succession,” a source told The Mail on Sunday.

The Palace did not release any comment about the title.

Princess Charlotte is the first female in the Royal Family to not be removed from her line of succession by her younger brother thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act (2013).

The new law saw women born in the Royal Family after October 2011 holding their place of succession no matter if they had a younger male in the family.

"It is not beyond the realms of possibility that she will accede the throne if, for example, Prince George does not have children," the source continued.

The decision of who becomes the Duke or Duchess of Edinburgh was always going to be King Charles’ decision.

It was also his parents’ wish that Prince Edward would become the next Duke of Edinburgh, but now only time will tell.

Images: Getty

“I believe Prince Andrew”: Fergie’s ex speaks in bombshell interview

Sarah Ferguson’s former partner has made bombshell allegations about Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew and the late Queen, including claims that the convicted sex offender planned to blackmail the monarch.

John Bryan, who was in a relationship with Ferguson for four years in the 1990s, made the claims in his first tell-all interview, per The Sun.

The US businessman said that Epstein earned some of his wealth by blackmailing others in powerful positions into giving him money in exchange for his silence over their illicit behaviours.

“People always ask how Epstein made his money. He was supposed to be this tax wizard. But it was all a con,” Bryan told the Mail on Sunday.

“He blackmailed rich men and then made them pay to avoid scandal. He made hundreds of millions of dollars this way.”

Bryan also claimed he was secretly drafted for crisis talks with Prince Andrew after the royal’s disastrous 2019 Newsnight interview, including that he was smuggled into the Royal Lodge to advise the royal in the wake of the Epstein scandal and amid claims he had sex with then-teenager Virginia Giuffre.

He said the conversation involved probing Andrew about his relationship with Epstein and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

“Andrew’s television interview had been a catastrophe so they needed an honest strategic plan that everyone could buy into,” Bryan recalled.

“[Fergie] invited me to come over. She was desperate. She told me that Andrew was in terrible shape.

“He was distraught. They were distraught.”

He claimed that he helped the family come up with a “long term strategy” called “House of Kroy”, a backwards spelling of York.

During the interview, Bryan said Epstein’s “ultimate” aim was to blackmail the Queen using the allegations of child sexual abuse and other sexual activities made against Andrew.

“Epstein tried to lure Andrew into his web, but I believe his ultimate mark was the Queen,” Bryan said, adding that Epstein’s plan to target the Queen supported his belief that the allegations against Andrew were unfounded.

“I believe Andrew is innocent. If he genuinely was involved in ‘orgies’ as has been alleged, then Epstein would have used that to try and bribe the Queen into paying out millions to protect her family,” he said.

“Andrew has never had any money. The Queen was the one with money.

“I truly believe Epstein was going after her but Andrew never gave him the ammunition to do so.”

The financial advisor recalled another meeting with the royals, including Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Bryan claimed Princess Beatrice told Andrew, “you’ve hurt our family”, and that Andrew was “downcast” and yelling: “I don’t care anymore, I don’t care. I am being treated unfairly.”

He added that the Duke was in a state he had never seen him in before after the interview.

“In the four years I dated Sarah I never once heard him raise his voice or lose his temper,” he said.

“It showed what strain he was under, how much he cared about the damage this was doing to the Royal Family.”

Bryan added that he had only seen Andrew with women aged in their mid-20s while he was dating Fergie, and that he believed there was “no hint” of “anything untoward going on”.

“I truly believe if there was anything untoward going on I would have known about it, Sarah would have known about it,” he said.

“But there was never a hint of that. I remain and will always remain an outsider, so let me be the first outsider to say that I believe Prince Andrew – and I don’t say it lightly.

“This outsider has a lot of inside knowledge.”

Image: Getty Images
